Steelskin
If you push your Aether to the edge of your body and hold it there, you can make yourself nigh-indestructible. All it requires is intense concentration, commitment, and training.
Power: You can hold your Aether just outside your body to harden your skin or enhance your strength. Use the following as a guideline to calculate Magnitude:
- Covering just one body part (a hand, a shin, an elbow) costs 0 Aether
- A limb, your head, or your trunk costs 1 Aether
- Your whole body costs 2 Aether
- Toughness equal to thick hide costs 0 Aether
- Steel costs 1 Aether
- Invulnerability from earthly means costs 2 Aether (though other Aether-users may find ways around this, or may overpower you)
- A blow deals damage as a basic weapon (2 Harm).
- Additional harm costs 2 Aether each.
- Effects cost 1 Aether if they are “basic” (like Bash, Shock, or Crush)
- Effects cost 2 Aether if they are “advanced” (you’ll also have to justify how your blow inflicts them)
Physical strength scales according to the Quality Magnitude guideline.
Upgrades
- Instant speed: When you would take Harm, you may defer it with Aether instead.
- Cutting edge: Your Aether can become a blade in addition to a shield. The sharper the blade, the higher the Magnitude cost.
- Guts of Iron: You can turn your fortification inward to your internal organs, allowing you to resist poisons, go without air, or ignore the effects of an injury (at a rate of one Aether per wound, once a day).
