Sabretooth Wanderer
Nestled in the plateaus of the Sabretooth Mountains, warrior-monks train their discipline and piety. Other mountain peoples pay tribute to the monasteries. In exchange the monks turn back the long arm of the law from all sides, be it the Unionist ranger or the Atlantean scout. Monks descend the mountain to the material world, to strengthen their commitment when they return to the peaks. In this time many become Wardens, to travel and sharpen their skills.
Power: You have trained in the three basic exercises of Aether, granting you nigh-superhuman abilities.
- The basic exercise of Breath allows feats of discipline or endurance
- The basic exercise of Heart allows feats of silence or subtlety
- The basic exercise of Palm allows feats of strength or speed
The real strength of a Sabretooth Master is the Techniques they’ve developed. In your travels you’ll accumulate Lessons; at any time you may create (and immediately use) a new Technique from two or more Lessons. Explain how your Technique incorporates the content of your Lessons, then follow the Technique creation rules. You don’t receive the “free space” Bonus Aether, because these techniques start raw and unpracticed.
When you travel to a new island or major location, you may learn a Natural Lesson from it. The Lesson should be a short description of a plant, animal, or other phenomenon (ask the table for ideas if you’re stuck). Each Natural Lesson incorporated into a Technique grants +1 Bonus Aether.
When the crew solves a Mystery or otherwise successfully resolves a major situation, you may learn a Victory Lesson. Describe one of your allies’ contributions to the goal. The Technique you create should be inspired by their skills or abilities.
When you observe another’s Aetheric ability for the first time, you may write an Aetheric Lesson describing it. Aetheric Lessons let you write Techniques derived from the ability you observed, rather than just ones you know.
Start with two Lessons that read “training on Sabretooth Mountain.” They provide no extra benefit when used, but may be used for any Technique.
Upgrades
- Deep Meditation: You may take a watch to meditate and restore yourself. Regain 4 Aether when you do.
- Learn Through Pain: When you take a Wound, you may write a Bloody Lesson. Bloody Lessons add a sacrifice to your Technique’s conditions, and grant +2 Bonus Aether.
- Student of Providence: When you roll 2 or more 6s, you may learn a Lucky Lesson. Lucky Lessons add a circumstance to your Technique’s conditions, with 2 6s requiring a common, 3 6s requiring an uncommon, and 4 or more 6s requiring a rare. Gain +2 Bonus Aether in addition to the circumstance.
- Relentless Practice: At the start of each day, you may choose one Technique to grant an additional +2 Bonus Aether until the next dawn.
